Institutions and Field Research Group

The main subject shared by the member in the group can be summarized as focus on the puzzling relationships between structure and agency. One aspect of the issue is the vital role of structure in influencing people to behave in one way or another, as can be seen in policy research. According to this view, if we want to understand goals as enhance achievements, decrease dropout rate or improve schools, we should follow and study policy and reforms.

The second aspect deals with the agent and agency to learn what mechanisms employed by actors while find their way and position in the system. Using theoretical lanes as institutional theory, Bourdieu and the organizational routines, The institutions and field group working on gaining a better understanding of the intricate links between the agent (principal, school) and the system (educational system, school system, principal preparation program). The group members:  Prof. Tubin, and the doctoral students Talmor Farchi, Michal Pinyan, Tamar Shui and Hilla Tal, engaged in several research projects:

  • Hilla Tal - Educational entrepreneurship, innovative school - the mechanisms involve when innovative and entrepreneurial school try to achieve legitimacy and support from in the educational field.

  • Talmor Farchi - Leadership Practices and School Effectiveness - the interactions between principal's habitus, cultural capital and social capital, leadership practices and school effectiveness

  • Michal Pinyan - Candidate background and Principal Preparation Program - the relationship between candidates' habitus, social and cultural capital and leadership identity and professional development.

  • Tamar Shui – Parent-Teacher Conference – goals and outcomes of school routines as parent-teacher conference.

  • Dorit Tubin – successful, coasting and failing schools – the intertwined relations between structure, leadership and the institutional logic and practices at the educational field.
